Eleven new innovation projects were launched in November 2025, bringing together actors from Sweden and the United States to advance sustainable mobility. The project's focus on electrified, autonomous, shared, and connected transport and cover areas such as high-precision vehicle radars, hydrogen trucks, electric ferries, electric roads, and urban mobility solutions.
Future Mobility — the innovation platform that facilitates collaborations and co-funding between Sweden and the United States — is now supporting these eleven projects through public grants from Vinnova, often complemented by co-funding from the participating organizations.
All eleven projects have strong potential to lead to lasting and mutually beneficial collaborations between the two countries. Together, they aim to contribute to the development of technologies and systems that make transport more sustainable, efficient, and connected.
Each project receives up to SEK 750,000 (USD 78,000) in public funding. Grant decisions were communicated in early November, and the projects are expected to begin as soon as administrative steps are finalized. All projects will be completed by July 2026.
“These projects demonstrate how international collaboration can accelerate the shift toward a more sustainable transport system,” says Hans Pohl, Program Director at Future Mobility.
“By connecting leading actors from Sweden and the United States, we’re supporting technological innovation and also building relationships that can last well beyond the scope of each project.”
The initiative is the result of a joint effort led by Future Mobility, in collaboration with Vinnova and the Swedish Energy Agency, together with California’s Air Resources Board, Public Utilities Commission, and Energy Commission.
Representatives from these organizations participated in a panel review of a large number of initial project pitches. Successful project consortia were then invited to submit full applications, of which 11 were ultimately approved for funding.
