Cocoon is an advanced safety platform designed to protect the most vulnerable road users: children in bike seats. While traditional helmets offer basic protection, Cocoon Airbag Protection introduces a sophisticated AI-powered airbag and sensor system that provides a "safety envelope" during high-impact collisions.

This project involves a strategic collaboration with Tlera Corporation to integrate specialized expertise in embedded electronics and access to a Silicon Valley network.

This partnership is designed to bridge the critical gap between initial design and global production. The current project phase will culminate in the development of a full-scale prototype, establishing a new standard for family cycling safety.

Cyclists, especially children in bike seats, face major safety risks in traffic. Current protective equipment, such as helmets, provide limited protection in high-impact collisions. Research shows that in crashes, bike-mounted child seats can exceed safe head injury limits by 23 times.

In this project, Cocoon Airbag Protection and Tiera Corporation partner to develop a prototype of a child bike seat with an AI-powered airbag—for full-body crash protection. The airbag provides, in addition to the helmet, an enhanced safety layer that can minimize potential injuries. Tests show that the airbag can reduce head injury risk by up to 315 times.

The project leverages Sweden’s strong mobility ecosystem and builds on collaboration with Tlera Corporation, with expertise in embedded electronics, design, and sensor applications, and a Silicon Valley network for prototyping, scaling, and production.

The project

The project aims to develop an electronics design advancing Cocoon’s airbag and sensor platform into a production-ready, designed-for-manufacture prototype. It will integrate accelerometers, signal processing, and Bluetooth communication into a modular, repairable system.

A full-scale prototype with production-ready PCB and firmware will be demonstrated during the project.

Project Goals

• Advance Cocoon’s sensor platform to a production-ready prototype

• Develop accelerometer and Bluetooth drivers for a connected solution.

• Create a modular, self-diagnostic design supporting Cocoon’s circular subscription model.

Develop ML algorithms to improve detection speed, reduce complexity, lower power use, and extend battery life—enhancing
Cocoon’s prototype and giving Tlera the opportunity to apply its advanced ML sensor expertise to other projects. This automated decision-making advances broader safety systems for urban mobility.

• Leverage Tlera Corp’s Silicon Valley network and U.S. productization expertise to
accelerate market readiness and future international growth.
